The question on everyone’s lips: Who is Mr M?

Chapel Street Windsor welcomes Mr Miyagi, a brilliant new Japanese restaurant serving contemporary Japanese dishes complimented by Japanese inspired cocktails, Japanese Whisky and iced tea, along with an impressive beer and wine list.

The name Mr Miyagi may spark a nostalgic throwback to the 80’s, however Mr Miyagi the bar and restaurant is nothing short of a current and innovative addition to the Melbourne food scene.

Mr Miyagi’s approach to dining is smart. The menu has been cleverly composed by Kyle Doody, formerly of Heirloom, and is easy to navigate, consisting of round one, round two, round three. The idea is to select different dishes from the three rounds, encouraging people to share and take advantage of the diverse menu options.

The relaxed and hip vibe of Mr Miyagi is enhanced by the open kitchen where Sushi chef, Sonny Son serves up crisp, fresh sushi and sashimi.

Set to be an institution, Mr Miyagi’s interior, designed by Eades & Bergman, faithfully pays homage to Japanese design. From razor-cut cardboard tiling on the walls to hints of perforated metal and wood tones throughout, the details are as polished as the establishment’s concrete floors.

The restaurants layout is designed to feel like a Tokyo laneway, bringing a sense of the outside streets in. Exposed brick walls illuminated by Paul Grummish street lamps with private carriages at the back. Front windows that open onto Chapel Street make it the ideal destination for locals and visitors year round.

Mr Miyagi is the latest venture from two of the industry’s young and savvy entrepreneurs, Andy Restein and Kristian Klein. Klein’s repertoire is extensive with eight years experience in food and entertainment alongside owning a successful fashion brand for the past two years. Andy’s foundation lies in human resources for design and hospitality, along with over five years experience in bars and restaurants.
The teaming of Klein and Restein brings a young, sophisticated, business savvy powerhouse to Mr Miyagi that is sure to make it a success.
